    Release Notes:

NOTE: Previous rip was nuked for bad encoding. And yes, it’s been like 10 months
since that’s happened, but this is a pretty good album by Jason Schwartzman (of
Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, Phantom Planet, etc), so it deserves a proper
release. Enjoy if you haven’t been already!

Also, this must be some enhanced version because there’s a bunch of alternate
versions and such that weren’t included on the first failed release.

Jason Schwartzman was first known for being the drummer of the alternative rock
band Phantom Planet. But Schwartzman left the band in the middle of their third
album to try his luck as an actor. Since then he has made his mark on the film
industry in movies such as “I Heart Huckabees” and “Marie Antoinette.” Now he is
back with a solo album called Nighttiming under the persona Coconut Records.

The two singles for Nighttiming are easily the best songs on the album. “West
Coast” is a mournful anthem of Schwartzman’s return to the west coast. “West
Coast” shares a lot of qualities with Phantom Planet’s biggest hit “California.”
Even the lyrics seem to be written in response to it. “And I miss you, I’m going
back home to the west coast/ I wish you could put yourself in my suitcase,” as
opposed to “California’s” “California here we come/ Right back where we started
    from/ California/ Here we come.”

The title track, “Nighttiming,” sounds like a mix between 70’s disco and 80’s
new age music, but somehow the result is good. The first impression I got of
this song was bad, but I came around to the extremely catchy chorus and music.
“Summer Day,” appeared on the soundtrack for “Spiderman 3.” In fact, costar
Kirsten Dunst sings the background vocals throughout the song.

Nighttiming has lots of different sounds, from Weezer-esque rock songs to a
unique type of indie pop rock. There are a lot of acoustic jingles like “This
Old Machine,” “Slowly,” and “Mamma,” none of which are good enough to give much
attention to. Many songs on the album don’t surpass three minutes long, and all
twelve songs on the album barely run thirty-three minutes. Some notable songs
are “Minding My Own Business” and my personal favorite “It’s Not You It’s Me.”

This CD may not be for anyone who wants really introspective music, but it is
good for easy listening and on some songs, rocking out.

    - Release Notes ————————————————————- -

If life is a highway, Fu Manchu is its soundtrack. Over the last dozen years,
the Southern California quartet has perfected the art of the riff, mastered
the depth of the groove and sharpened the edge of the hook. As Signs Of
Infinite Power proves, the group’s always-rockin’ van still has plenty of gas
left in the tank. Although Fu Manchu’s alumni include such decorated names as
Brant Bjork (Kyuss, QOTSA), the group’s lineup has been rock-solid since
2001. If you’re craving a fix of unpretentious, classic-minded Hard Rock in
its most timeless form, look no further than Fu Manchu.

    In Time – The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003 (2003)

    In Time - The Best Of R E M 1988-2003 (2003) @ 320kbps

How do you condense 15 years of music down to 76 minutes? In the case of this survey of the second phase of R.E.M.’s career, the answer is: Exceptionally well. The dangling carrot for diehards is two new songs; the rapid fire “Bad Day” hurtles along like the kissing cousin of “It’s the End of the World as We Know It,” while “Animal” is anchored by a majestic drone reminiscent of the Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows.” In a surprising, but gratifying move, the rest of the program shortchanges the band’s breakthrough, Out of Time (no “Shiny Happy People”), to better accommodate movie soundtrack contributions, and spotlight gems from the less commercial, post-Bill Berry albums Reveal and Up; with its baroque piano and multi-tracked vocal harmonies, the Beach Boys homage “At My Most Beautiful” is particularly gorgeous, while the burbling keyboards and slightly dazed singing of “All the Way to Reno” will appeal to Flaming Lips fans.
