Goldspot – Tally Of The Yes Men
Posted on October 21st, 2009 No commentsGoldspot – Tally of the Yes Men

Indian-born Siddhartha Khosla was forced to leave London a few years ago as his visa had expired.
Decamping to Los Angeles, he met up with songwriting partner Ramy Antoun and continued the music-making
process that began in the UK. Teaming up with former Beach Boys engineer Jeff Peters signalled another
positive change in fortunes and it would take a hard heart not to wish Goldspot more success on the basis of
this excellent first album. ‘Tally Of The Yes Men’ is, ultimately, a pop-rock album classically moulded from
Beach Boys/Beatles-style melodies but the spindly guitar figures on display indicate a post-punk influence
too. “Sid” is in fine voice throughout; equally capable for either uplifting moods or hand-wringing emotion.
There are huge catchy hooks throughout the record (most notably on ‘Rewind’ and ‘Assistant’), ‘Getting Old’
and ‘Cusp’ show the same arty commercial potential as Interpol, ‘The Guard’ is a splendid spine-tingling
ballad and ‘Motorcade’ shows the willingness to experiment and toy with ambitious arrangements without ever
compromising on those ever-present tunes. So good, this sounds like a greatest hits album already.
